Flacone da 100 ml Eau de Cologne Spray con scatola originale. Per caratteristiche della presentazione e del packaging, l'esemplare è verosimilmente collocabile intorno al 1998. Si tratta comunque di una produzione precedente alle successive evoluzioni di confezione e alle formulazioni più moderne della fragranza. Etro nasce come azienda tessile nel 1968 e crea la propria divisione profumi già nel 1989. Le prime fragranze precedono quindi di diversi anni il debutto della maison sulle passerelle milanesi: un dettaglio curioso che spiega perché la profumeria sia una parte storica, e non accessoria, dell'universo Etro.
Lanciato nel 1994, Messe de Minuit porta un nome che significa “Messa di mezzanotte” e costruisce attorno a questa idea un'atmosfera olfattiva molto precisa: prima luminosa e agrumata, poi progressivamente più scura, resinosa e fumosa.
È uno dei profumi Etro che meglio rappresentano quella stagione della profumeria in cui una fragranza poteva essere concettuale e insolita senza rinunciare all'eleganza. Nonostante la classificazione Eau de Cologne, la struttura va ben oltre la classica freschezza agrumata.
Il motivo Paisley della scatola è uno dei codici più importanti della maison. Etro lo introdusse nelle proprie collezioni nel 1981, trasformandolo progressivamente nel simbolo visivo del marchio. La confezione di questo Messe de Minuit racconta quindi la stessa identità tessile che ha reso riconoscibile Etro nella moda.

L'apertura è brillante, quasi solare, con arancia, limone e bergamotto. Ma la parte agrumata serve soprattutto da introduzione: mirra, cannella e patchouli portano rapidamente la composizione verso territori più caldi e profondi.
Nel fondo, incenso e labdano costruiscono la parte più suggestiva del profumo, ammorbidita dal miele e dal muschio. Il risultato è balsamico, aromatico e leggermente fumoso, con un carattere molto più contemplativo che aggressivo.
La prima collezione Etro Profumi aveva distribuzione limitata, flaconi coordinati e fragranze spesso costruite attorno a materie prime o accordi ben riconoscibili. La maison suggeriva persino di sovrapporre più profumi per creare combinazioni personali: un approccio sorprendentemente moderno per la fine degli anni '80 e l'inizio degli anni '90.

Messe de Minuit non è interessante perché “vecchio”: lo è perché appartiene a una fase in cui Etro trattava la profumeria quasi come i propri tessuti — per sovrapposizioni, materia, colore e atmosfera. È proprio questa coerenza tra scatola, nome e profumo a renderlo ancora oggi immediatamente riconoscibile.
