Two years after its groundbreaking launch that revolutionized 1990s women's perfumery, this bottle of Dune by Christian Dior has never met the air. Sealed. Intact. Original 1993 formula.
Dune was born in 1991 from a radical intuition: to take fragrance out of gardens and drawing-rooms, towards an open, windswept, immense landscape. Jean-Louis Sieuzac — the same master behind Opium for YSL — created something that didn't exist: a marine scent that doesn't smell of the sea, a powder that doesn't smell of face powder, an emptiness full of warmth. Critics called it "perfume of the horizon". The public bought it silently, and never stopped.

Why 1993 is special
Dune was launched in 1991, inspired by the sand dunes of Granville, Christian Dior's Norman hometown, where sea and land meet in a landscape that belongs to no season. That first production window — 1991–1994 — is now considered the golden age of the original formula, before IFRA revisions gradually eliminated some aldehydic molecules and natural musks responsible for its unmistakable signature.
1993 is also the year Dune won the Prix de Beauté and solidified its presence as one of the most recognizable perfumes of the decade. A sealed bottle from that year is a time capsule: the formula as Sieuzac conceived it, not as it was reformulated.
The bottle — designed by Serge Mansau — imitates a dune with its sinuous curve and sand-colored cap. Already iconic in itself, it is now a collector's item.
