Nel settembre 1996, durante un'intervista, Gianni Versace collegò il suo nuovo profumo The Dreamer al mondo dello spazio e dell'immaginazione. Era un'espressione della sua visione creativa, nella quale moda, fantasia e libertà artistica non avevano confini. Il profumo nasce proprio in questo contesto: non come una semplice colonia maschile, ma come una fragranza dal carattere sognante e fuori dagli schemi. È una delle ultime creazioni olfattive appartenenti direttamente all'epoca di Gianni Versace.
The Dreamer debutta nel 1996 e viene creato dal profumiere Jean-Pierre Béthouart. La composizione sceglie un carattere decisamente insolito per il mercato maschile di metà anni Novanta.
Invece di puntare esclusivamente su agrumi, note marine e legni freschi, il profumo combina un'apertura aromatica incisiva con un cuore di iris e fiori delicati. La parte finale introduce il particolare accordo di fiore di tabacco, accompagnato da una morbida profondità ambrata. Questa evoluzione rende The Dreamer una fragranza romantica ma non priva di carattere, con una firma olfattiva riconoscibile.

L'iris introduce una sfumatura morbida, cipriata e leggermente elegante, mentre il giglio arricchisce il cuore con una componente floreale più luminosa. È però il fiore di tabacco a rendere particolarmente riconoscibile The Dreamer: non un accordo di cenere o fumo intenso, ma una sfumatura floreale e aromatica che si lega alla dolcezza dell'ambra. Questa combinazione conferisce alla fragranza una personalità quasi sospesa fra freschezza, delicatezza e calore.
Il cofanetto affianca all'Eau de Toilette la sua After Shave Lotion, una lozione dopobarba e non un balsamo in crema. La formulazione riporta ingredienti come hamamelis, allantoina, bisabololo e mentil lattato. L'abbinamento permette di riscoprire anche il prodotto da rasatura legato alla linea originale The Dreamer, un aspetto che interessa chi colleziona le creazioni Versace della stessa epoca.
Questa edizione reca l'indicazione Gianni Versace Profumi – GIVER S.p.A. Milano, associata alla produzione storica della fragranza.
